It was well past sunset, but still the sky was very light tonight. A full moon hung low in the star-filled sky, giving everything a kind of eery silver glow. Rather then stay inside doing whatever, the Witch was sitting cross legged with his back up against his candy-cain fence, facing away from the house towards the woods.
It was a Monday today. Usually on a Monday he went to town without fail because it was part of his routine. The routine that he stuck to so that town people would not think there was anything wrong or going on. Today he had not gone to town, nore the day before or the day before that. He was not going to go tomorrow either. Let them think what they like, no matter what he did those people thought things anyway. Or at least he thought they did, being paranoid like he was.
So long as they stayed away from here, it didn't matter.
It was a fair few days since he had let Gretal out of his house. He didn't remember letting her out, all he knew was that she was gone. For a wile he had been OK because he had thought she just might come back. Now he was upset about her being gone. He missed her and really didn't understand why she was gone. The nasty lonely feeling he had gotten the first time the two kids had escaped the house had set in again. It would pass, he just really didn't want to have to go down into town and get even more worked up because of people there for a wile.
With nothing better to do, Zeque picked up a dead leaf from the ground next to him and looked at it for a moment, then used his magic to make it burst into flames. For some reason the fire brought a small smile to the witches face. He probably would have watched it longer had he not heard something. His paranoia kicked in instantly. He froze and listened hard, hoping to hell that it was an animal and not a person....

"wow pretty flames"
She said with a giggle stepping out form behind a tree, she had been studying hatter and how he moved like that and she was getting pretty good at it, for a normla human girl atleast. she wore her usual pretty blue dress and her golden hair hung donw over her shoulders, she had been walking and just wandering around when she had smealt sweet things whic she now knew it was the candy house. she looked at zeque and recognised him, he had helped her look for hatter once she was sure of it.
"hi there"
she said as she skipped forwards her hands each side of her body she curtsied for him because well it was the proper thing for girls to do and then sat down without being asked,
"you look sad"
she said making a pretend sad face at zeque and then smiling again, she didint like to see people sad, crying with pain maybe but not really sad.

The witch instantly relaxed when Alice stepped out from behind a tree. It was a good thing that she just appeared like that really, it didn't give him enough time to start freaking out or jumping into worst case scenarios. He recognized her right away, even though he had only met her once. Zeque might forget a lot of things, but he did not forget people, he remembered conversations too if they were nice and didn't upset him. That way if he met someone he took a liking to, he could remember little things that they said that might help him find them again later.
"Hello Alice" He said, remembering the leaf he was burning and waving it out quick before it got chance to burn his hand. That wouldn't be very clever now would it?
He sighed whens he pointed out that he looked sad, then smiled at her, watching her sit down. "Yeah... just a little lonely is all. I'll live I'm sure" His eyes wondered down her hair, all blonde and shiny. He had a really big thing about blonde hair, girls with blonde hair looked like angels.
"How are you anyway?"

Alice smiledf at him and patted his head kind of like a you might pat a puppy and giggled a little, she was in a good mood he had a house made of sweeties that was the most amazing thing ever.
"aww well im here now no loneliness while alice is around, do you live in that house? it smells so good"
she said with a nod looking atti and the fence, she was thiking about biting it but if it was his hous ehe might not eb too happy about that and she didint want to upset anyone because upsetting people wasnt good especially since he was already sad. she ran her fingers through her hair and lookd at him and smiled tilting her head ot the side.
"so what you want to do? we coudl play games or something because im bored and i didint find anythign else fun in the woods"
she said shaking he rhead to make sure he got the message

He nodded his head, smiling slightly now. "Yeah and thank you, its not candy on the inside though... well there is candy in there, theres lots, i mean its not made of candy on the inside." He sighed a little shaking his head, that had all come out a little stupid really. He looked dover at her, she was looking at his fence and it didn't really take a lot of thought to guess why. "You can try it if you want, but i have more inside that you could eat without breaking the fence" Usually he would hate the idea of anyone even thinking of eating his fence, or any part of his house for that matter. He wasn't bothered at the moment though, she wasn't just helping herself to it like most little brats did and besides, he could easily put another candy-cain post in to replace it.
What did he want to do? He didn't really know, he had been happy enough just sitting here but now that he had someone with him, he would rather do something. After seeing her run her fingers though her head, he came out with "I think I'll make my hair long" it was almost random when he said it out loud. Plus he said make, not grow.
He nodded a little to himself then looked back to Alice again. "What do you want to do?"

her face looked a bit sad when he said the insade wasnt sweets but he had lots of sweets inside maybe he would give her some, she didint want to eat his fence if he had better sweets maybe, maybe even cakes!
"wow lots of sweets, i love sweets so does hatter, i get them from town but sometimes the people get mad at me"
she didint pay them for the sweets she took which was why she got so mad at her, she smiled at him thoughhe said he wanted to make his hair long, she frowned and wasnt sure of how he would do it but she remembered him saying somethign about him ebing a witch? or had she imagined that?
"wow, when you do can i play with it? we could make it a pretty colour"
she said with a smile, she liked playing with hair, she did her own but ti wasnt the same really and hatter had his hat on his head over his hair so she didint play with his much.

Zeque rolled his eyes when she mentioned the people in town, making it quite obvious that he did not like them either. Not for the same reason though, they didn't get mad at him, he just thought they were all out to get him.
He couldn't help but smile when she asked to play with his hair. He liked this girl, not in the creepy scary way that he liked some people, he just thought she was nice. And he was starting to notice that she was one of those people who you couldn't say no to. She was to sweet and girly, he had no doubt that she got her way quite a lot. "If you like... i don't think i have any hair color though" For some reason the image of her trying to color his hair in with felt tip pens came to mind.
Well she loved sweets, he had better sort her out some sweets. "Come on" He said, standing up and holding out his hand to help her up. "I love candy too, i like to make it, and muffins and cakes but i like gingerbread best"

she took his hand and jumped up standing with him now and brushing off her skirt with her free hand, she looked around it was all quiet and nothing around so candy was the best thing right now.
"i like muffins and sweeties i never had gingerbread before"
was that weird? for her to have never had gingerbread, her mother and father hadnt liked he rhaving sweets and she hadnt had them till she started taking them from the shops in town, well hatter had cookies in the tea party but not alot more, so she brough them from town.
"maybe we can find some colour for your hair"
she said in her sing song voice kind fo thinking about just finding some colour for her hair, she had one painted a girls hair with her own blood before and for a while it had been red but when it dryed it didint look so nice.

After helping her up the Witch headed down the garden path, taking the key out of his pocket. He almost chocked when she said she had never had gingerbread before. Looking over at her as he unlocked the door, he asked her "Really?" Oh the poor girl! Well no matter, because she would try it now! He took the spell off the door that held it tight shut (he didn't really trust the lock and key) and pushed the door open, leading her into the living room. It smelled of muffins at the moment, he had been making them a wile ago, they had probably all cooled off by now.
"We could make gingerbread men, seen as you haven't tried it before" He suggested, heading thought he living room into the kitchen. It was all nice and neat in there, to much to the point of being too neat. Everything seemed to have its place, even things that were out of cubberds and left out on the sides were arranged neatly. There were two trays of different flavored muffins cooling off on the kitchen table and jars of sweets, chocolates, toffees and lollypops sat in rows along shelfs and counters, all neat like in a candy store.

Alice was having a very hard time comtainging herself she was having to hold her hands together infront of her to stop herself messing up zeques kitcxhen and taking all the candy and lollies, she was in heaven sweeties and muffins, and all sorts, it was fantastic.
"that sounds fun, i like making things, i think, can i have a lolly?"
she was looking at a red one she coudl see in the front fo the jar and she wanted ot reach out and grab it, she was finding it so hard she had to sort of jump uo and down like a child who needed the toilet, but she didint. she took a deep breath and said the rest really quickly.
"IWanttolivehereitssoamazinglookatallthesweets!"

Wile Alice was looking around at candy, Zeque was looking around the cubberds for mixing bowls and ingredients. Well usually when he brought people here, candy wasn't exactly the first thing on there mind, so he had kind of forgotten to ask her if she wanted any. "Oh, yeah sure. It needs eating, help yourself to anything"
He set all the things they would need out neatly on the counter, if she was going to stand there all fascinated by the candy, he would most likely end up doing the gingerbread making himself. Not that he minded that, she could crack the eggs though because for some reason kids seemed to like doing that. He then turned to look at her again, remembering something else he had forgotten to ask her. "Would you like a drink?"

Alice made a little squeeling sound as he said help herself usually she didint wait to be told so she had been very good waitinhg, she took a handful of lollies putting on in her mouth and the rest in the pocket of her dress and then some bonbons that were all coveredin the powerder stuff that got all over her fingers and put them in as well and anything else she coudl find until she was stood with a mouth full of sweets some choc9late on her cheek and pockets full of the rest. she smiled at him when he asked if she wanted a drink and spoke with a full mouth.
"doooo choo harve Tea?"
it came out a bit weird because of the sweets in her mouth but that was what she wanted tea was the best drink ever if only hatter was here it would be the best thing ever in the whole world, she had a feeling he woudl like zeque with his sweets and ginger bread. she chwed the sweets and swallowed and now coudl speak properly.
"hatter would like to make gingerbread too, he likes tea and sweets"

He didn't really expect her to ask for tea. Despite the fact that she was obviously in her late teens, he thought her a lot more like a little child. She acted like a one. "Yeah" He nodded, leaning over to flick on the kettle. He wasn't sure if he should let her make her own or not. He didn't want her to burn herself, but only she knew how much milk and sugar and stuff she liked in her tea. The same reason he didn't like other people making his coffee.
Wile it boiled he leaned ont he counter and watched her. Wow, she really did like sweets, you would think she had never been fed before. He didn't mind though, she could have what she liked. He made candy much faster then he could eat it, he just liked the colors and the fact that he could keep it for a long time. "OK, how about we go find him first, then he can come over and help you decorate the gingerbread men?" Well to him it sounded like a good idea. And wile they were out they could look for something to color his hair with.

she said with a nod putting the lolly back in her mouth, it was mkaing her tongue all red and she was sure it was os she stuck it out but she coudlnt see her own tongue. she shrugged and licked her lolly some more, it was great, she was going to come here all the time now she knew he had sweets.
"maybe one day will you teac me how to make muffins so i can amke some for hatter as a present"
she thought it woudl be nice ot get him a present and one she made herself would be the best one, she couldnt wait she was all excited and full of sugar and they were going to make gingerbread men and junk.
"oh do you make gingerbread girls? and what about ones with top hats?"
she was leaning over zeques shoulder as he boiled the kettle, sort of jumping up and down all impatient and childlike.

Good, he thought it was a good idea too. Well when she was done with her tea they could go find the hatter and get started.
He nodded in answer to her first question. "Sure, Muffins are easy" He told her, picking up the kettle once it was done boiling and pouring her tea into a cup. He got out the milk and sugar and gave that to her so that she could have it how she liked it.
Gingerbread girls and ones with tophats? It sounded like she wanted to make herself and her boyfriend. It was cute "Yeah, You can make them what shape you like. Then put icing and sweets on to give them faces"
