Wait..
Within the forest clearing, a doe grazes quietly upon the lush grass sprouting around its hooves. From the gently swaying canopy overhead rays of sunlight glimmer through rustling families of leaves. Stately timbers lined with thick brush frame the clearing edge, giving the scene a feel of serene tranquility.
Wait..
Having swallowed its current mouthful, the doe delicately leans its long, slender neck to the ground for another bite.
Now!
A piercing scream shatters the calm as a ring-tailed demon springs from the thicket, startling the doe. As the lemur blurs passed to the branches above, the frightened creature instantly turns to flee. Just as it darts back into the shelter of the trees, a slender white cat descends upon the doe's back, sinking her claws firmly into the poor creature's flesh. Unleashing a painful cry, the doe flails and bucks as its attacker claws up the animal's neck and clamps her teeth into it's throat, crushing a jugular.
The poor creature struggles in attempts to throw her, but the nimble cat pays no heed, summoning all of her strength to jerk the bite, tearing the veins beneath. Launching her bite again and again, the snowy cat uses her claws to keep her grip firm, ignoring the gurgling wails emitting from her prey. Slowly the doe weakens, eventually falling to the ground. Feebly it kicks once or twice more as the white cat delicately leaps from its neck to the ground. Settling beside the doe, she raises a paw and begins to clean away the blood, listening to the erratic sound of her prey's breathing as it ebbs further and further away from life.
With a low chitter the lemur lands close to the cat's side. Glancing up at her steed with fondness, she butts her head against its neck approvingly. The lemur chitters again before turning to look behind them. From the brush another cat hurriedly emerges, this one wearing a tailored dress coat with buttons going up the front. The lemur releases a low grunt in warning at the appearance of the second feline.
"It's all right Tok, it's only Fairmyre" the white cat coos softly as she shifts her attention to the newcommer.
"Mistress" Standing back on hind legs, Fairmyre greets her with a sweeping bow. She replies with a silent nod and continues to clean away the offending scarlet stains soaking her snowy fur. Fairmyre straightens himself and regards the doe, now lying quite still at their feet.
"I shall have it taken back and cleaned immediately my Lady." Turning again to face her. "If it pleases the Mistress, Leander has returned with interesting news from his daily explorations of our neighboring woods."
The white cat's ear tilts in his direction, reflecting a vague interest in the conversation. Encouraged by such a gesture, the feline continues.
"Leander claims that one of the newest arrivals was in mounted upon a great, monstrosity of a creature. He says it was roughly horse shaped, but earless and there were huge, hill-like swellings lining it's back." As he recants the tale, Fairmyre attempts to steel his voice to mask the uneasiness the report brought him. "With the Mistress's permission, I will send Johann accordingly to investigate further."
"That is unnecessary, Fairmyre." the lady responds, rising upon four legs again. "If such an exotic creature has graced these woods, I would very much like to witness it personally."
"As you wish my Lady" He nods to her, bowing again.
As he rises, the white cat moves to her steed, mounting the specialized leather saddle fitted on his back. "Kindly send a messanger to Leander requesting him to return by supper. After I have heard his findings, he can advise me as to their whereabouts."
"But Mistress.." Fairmyre replies hesitantly, not wishing to upset her. " .. the sun will be setting soon.."
"I am aware of the time" She replies quietly, a slight tartness in her tone. "That is all Fairmyre." With that she tugs lightly on the reigns and the lemur springs into the air. Leaping between the branches above, they disappear out of sight.
